Break the Cycle

A partnership project to provide supported housing and community support to people who are released from prison into homelessness; and to evaluate the effect this support has on re-offending rates.

This project is led by Together Kent, in partnership with the Diocese of Canterbury, CampaignKent, and others with support from the Catching Lives day centre. A Diocesan property has been made available to the project.

CampaignKent will work with HM Prison Elmley on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, to identify repeat offenders who are likely to be released into street homelessness. They will then provide pre-tenancy training in areas such as budgeting, before supporting the individuals through a six-month period at the project’s property.

Together Kent will work with local churches and community groups to provide a community connection for the tenants, and opportunities for them to work in and with the local community to build longer-term relationships.

A key element of this project is integrating house residents into the local community to build their self-confidence and improve their mental health and well-being. Campaign Kent will provide the monitoring and evaluation of the project results.
